Receive rewards, maintain grid reliability through APS Peak Solutions

More commercial customers can earn revenue by conserving energy when demand peaks

PHOENIX – While cooler weather is finally here, the past summer brought unprecedented challenges including record heat and energy shortages on the Western grid. Through it all, Arizona Public Service Company (APS) maintained a stable supply of electricity due in part to programs like APS Peak Solutions. Launched in 2010, this program engages commercial and industrial customers in voluntary energy conservation measures when demand for energy peaks on APS’ system. The program helps maintain reliable, lower-cost power for all customers.

APS is partnering with CPower to expand APS Peak Solutions, giving more customers the opportunity to earn financial rewards when they voluntarily reduce their energy use during those times when energy demand intensifies against available supply. A leading provider of demand-side energy management solutions in the U.S., CPower will recruit and consult with industrial and commercial APS customers interested in earning rewards for promoting a safe and reliable grid.

“Nearly 1.3 million homes and businesses rely on APS to deliver reliable power around the clock, and when some of our customers conserve a little, we all win with lower costs and ensuring a safe and reliable energy supply for all,” said Jacob Tetlow, Senior Vice President of Operations for APS. “The APS Peak Solutions program rewards commercial customers who quickly adjust their operations to use less energy for the greater good of all customers.”

CPower will help expand customer participation in the APS Peak Solutions program over the next several years. Participating commercial and industrial customers can receive several benefits for voluntarily conserving energy, including:

  • Low-to-No-Risk, High-Reward Opportunity: Customers can earn between hundreds and hundreds of thousands of dollars based on the amount of energy they conserve. No penalties apply. Customers can contribute as little as 10 kilowatts to start earning rewards.
  • Personalized Conservation Plan and Facility Assessment: Demand response experts and engineers will help assess customers’ facilities and tailor a personalized conservation plan to each business’s needs so they can make optimal decisions about day-to-day operations when the grid is stressed.
  • Grid Reliability Support: While earning financial rewards, industrial and commercial customers make a valuable contribution to communities across Arizona to ensure safe and reliable energy for all. APS Peak Solutions not only helps maintain a stable energy grid, but also doubles as an energy efficiency program, advancing APS’s clean energy commitment of serving customers with 100% clean, carbon-free electricity by 2050.
“We are extremely excited to be part of the growth of this program through our partnership with APS,” said John Horton, President and CEO of CPower. “We believe that demand response and the value it brings to APS customers will help promote a reliable grid while rewarding them for their help in reducing energy in times of need.”
